Bi-objective optimization for closed-loop food supply chain involving returnable transport items

Résumé

This paper investigates a multi-period closed-loop food supply chain planning problem. Returnable transport items are used to ship food products from a single manufacturer to multiple retailers. Food quality deteriorates over periods. Both economic and environmental issues are taken into consideration. For the problem, we propose a bi-objective mixed integer linear program to simultaneously maximize the total profit and minimize the carbon emissions of the holistic supply chain. Aiming to obtain the Pareto front of the problem, we adapt an \varepsilon -constraint method to transform the bi-objective model into a series of single-objective ones which are optimally solved by CPLEX. Computational experiments conducted on randomly generated instances and an illustrative example demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed model.
